"Serious allegations" against Guergis revealed

CBC News has learned that "serious allegations", Prime Minister Stephen Harper referred to the year last under the former Conservative MP Helena Guergis included baseless allegations of fraud, extortion and involvement with prostitutes.

But a letter written by an assistant of Harper and obtained by the States of CBC News that the Prime Minister's Office has learned that the allegations had been made by a detective from Toronto. The letter also reveals that the allegations were not based on tangible evidence.

Harper has never explained what were allegations against Guergis, which was later laundered by the RCMP for any wrongdoing. Member of Parliament for Ontario, who was ousted from cabinet, caucus and the party in April 2010, also stated that she was never personally said that the allegations were, something to deny the Tories.

But CBC News has obtained the letter sent by the principal Secretary to Harper, Ray Novak, the Commissioner of the RCMP William Elliott on Guergis and her husband, former Conservative MP Rahim Jaffer.

"The allegations are many and include fraud, extortion, obtaining benefits by false pretences and involvement in prostitution," Novak wrote in a letter dated April 9, 2010.

But Novak has written that the Prime Minister's Office has "no first hand knowledge of these allegations."

Instead, Novak said that the PMO "become aware of the details of the allegations" made by Derrick Snowdy of private detective based in Toronto.

Novak has written that CMP had not communicated directly with Snowdy and that the communication was conducted by the legal counsel of the conservative party, Arthur Hamilton.

A week later, Hamilton was interviewed by two investigators of the RCMP on the allegations. CBC News has obtained an expurgated of the interview transcript.

Hamilton allegations of "Jaffer and Guergis tape, partying with prostitutes and cocaine" and that "not only Helena tolerates Jaffer drag with, with escorts and prostitutes, but apparently there is video of his cocaine with the breasts of a prostitute.".

"I have no verification of this", Hamilton added during the interview, citing articles of newspapers as another potential source of information.

At this point in the interview, the RCMP asked Hamilton if he was aware of anyone who could support his claims.

"I'm not", he said.

But Hamilton confirmed to the RCMP investigators that he had spoken to Snowdy.

Contacted by CBC News, Hamilton refused to comment on.

A month after talks Hamilton to the RCMP, Snowdy, appearing before a parliamentary Committee, stated under oath that he had "no evidence or information regarding the chairmanship of Ms. Guergis in my possession or knowledge".

After a survey of three months, the RCMP, in response to Novak, said in July 2010, they had concluded there there was "no evidence to support a charge under the Criminal Code".

Guergis is running as an independent MP.

Jaffer had been accused of trying to use its links with the former Conservative colleagues in the Government to have access to a federal green infrastructure fund for several companies.

Jaffer, who was not registered as a lobbyist, has denied conduct not filed lobbying or receive a penny of federal funds.

Guergis a press conference on this subject at 11 a.m. this Friday.
