(CNN) - system.UInt64 body of two workers at a Gatlinburg, Tennessee, wastewater treatment plant was on Tuesday afternoon under a wall that had reduced, sending sewage in the little pigeon River, officials said.
Gatlinburg fire chief Greg Miller identified the victims as John Eslinger, 53, and Don storey, 44, employees of the contractor's Veolia Water North America.
"Employees and officials of the city of Gatlinburg and Veolia Water deep sympathy for the families and are extremely saddened employees and good friends, lose expressions according to a joint declaration".
The cause of the collapse was investigated.
The wall of a containment pool collapsed Tuesday morning in Gatlinburg wastewater treatment plant, dumping at least 1.5 million gallons of sewage into the River, according to the State Emergency Management Agency.
The wall collapse involved an overflow reservoir for liquid waste, which often flooded the facility after a heavy rain after Tisha Calabrese-Benton, a State Emergency Management Agency officials.
The basin was not fully, so that is not known exactly how much waste water released was. Calabrese-Benton, said sewage in the River continue to inbound the system release.
The search for the staff include the River.
An avalanche of mud about a mile from the plant, several hours before the collapse occurred wall, Gatlinburg City Manager Cindy ogle said. Rain moved through the area overnight Monday.
According crews put up signs to tourists away from the Pigeon Forge River, which warn bacteria, already under Advisory due to the previous concerns to Calabrese-Benton.
