Why we smell different

How is it that some people smell differently the same thing?

A group of researchers believes his work studying neurons, or nerve cells, is evidence as smell to the brain is transmitted.

The results in the journal nature, presented suggest that the neural wiring or the paths of neurons of the olfactory bulb to the brain is unique to each person. Or at least, that is, what is the science in mice, that similar brain structures as people have.

NEWS: Snot is sense of smell

Scientists smell information to map such as mice at the lowest level uses a new type of viral trace, where sensory areas of mice were exposed to a virus with a fluorescent color coding system. The colors allowed researchers to follow it the virus progress through cells, signals revealed the details of the movements of electric while neurons and synapses.

Although researchers a substantial amount of the original perceptions of smell-know know such information in an organism olfactory bulb, it comes through basically smaller, how neurons contain messages from this smell Center to the brain.

After signals through the olfactory bulb of tiny spheres known as Glomeruli travel, travel it to the brain of mitrial and getuftete neurons. But what makes unique research ability, these connections with the fluorescent colors is produced by the virus to show movement by these cells.

Finally they found unique wiring of the space between the olfactory bulb and the brain for each mouse be.

Could differences in these neural pathways are why people are more or less sensitive to certain smells? Would this explain why people smell different?

Even though it knows nothing about this process, the study still enough scientists and future research soon some answers could find you.
