A man accused of entering a primary school in the West of Quebec armed with a loaded gun and hunting knife is now facing criminal charges 10, including three of the hostage.
Rock Dagenais, 25, appeared before a court in Gatineau just before noon Wednesday, the day after police arrested him at the school St. Lawrence in Buckingham, QC.
Police accused Gatineau Dagenais with several accusations of weapons, including the possession of an illegal weapon and concealment of a firearm. He is also facing a charge of uttering a threat, more costs related to the alleged taking of three hostages - two teachers and a Secretary.
Police alleged that Dagenais was transporting a setups calibre.22 rifle when he was at the entrance to a full classroom of approximately 25 students just after 2 p.m. (et).
He was arrested about 15 minutes later and cooperative, police said.
No one was injured and no shots were fired, but the school was on lockdown as a precautionary measure, until parents came to pick up their children.
Pat Lescot, who was picking up her daughter, Michaela, said that it was a scary experience.
"I was on the bus coming home [and] you hear that you are nothing," said Lescot. "" "". This is my daughter, you know? You do not know what to think, what was going on. ?
Villyron Mallon, who has a son at the school, said officials have said the parents, children can return to classes on Wednesday, and that psychologists will be on hand to talk to children.
Mallon said it would begin to speak to his son Tuesday evening.
"I am very pleased to be able to go home today," said Mallon. "I took the night off the coast, go home with my boy, have dinner and talk about the situation."
Constable Pierre Lanthier, a Gatineau police spokesman, told CBC News the intruder was not a parent of a child at school but came from the Buckingham area. There is no indication that he knew anyone at the school
Dagenais should be kept in custody until a bail hearing on April 28 because of the seriousness of the charges.
