"birthers" found support in Arizona

The Arizona legislature gave final approval to a proposal that President Barack Obama and the other candidates to the Presidency to prove that they are citizens before Americans their name may appear on the ballot of the State.

Arizona would become the first State to require evidence if Governor Jan Brewer signs the measure approved Thursday in the Act.

Thirteen other States have considered similar proposals this year.

The so-called "birthers" have argued since the last presidential election that Obama is not eligible for the highest nation elected because he was in fact born in the Kenya, homeland of his father.

Hawaii officials have repeatedly confirmed the citizenship of the Obama, and his Hawaii birth certificate has been made public.

The Bill received final approval from the House of the State in a 40-16.
