Armed man arrested at the school of Québec

Man with a gun was arrested after he incorporates a classroom in an elementary school in Buckingham, QC, said police.

Gatineau police, said the man, wielding a sawed-off 22 caliber rifle, entered a classroom at school St. Lawrence, filled to about 25 students, but was arrested shortly after and was cooperative.

No one was injured and no shots were fired, but the school was on lockdown.

Spokesperson for the Gatineau Police constable Pierre Lanthier said CBC News man was 30-35 years old and was not a parent of a child to school.

"He walked in the school, and then he received in a class," said Lanthier. "The teacher was there, and it was really calm inside the class."

Police have not yet released the name of the man and said they were still by train trying to determine his motive.

Parents were relieved that the situation was defused so smoothly.

The man is due to appear in court Wednesday.
